Sick and misserable, worst 48 hrs ever!

So, after my exciting weekend I came back home on saturday night after going to Dane's Cook comedy show at the Toyota Center and cramping myself into 8, the new cool bar/lounge/night club on Washington St; which was too crowded for my taste that made me and my husband flee that mess after 1 hour of fighting against the crowd to get some drinks.

Sunday morning my nose was super congested, I felt like the sky was falling over me! I refused to get out of bed until noon when my husband dragged me to his parents house to get in the pool and get some sun. After a couple of hours and lots and lots of medicines I was feeling better. We went to our volleyball tournament, won 3 out of 4 games and by midnight I was fighting against the headache and massive congestion again...

Monday was even worst until I had some Tylenol Cold and Sinus, OMG, I felt like someone drilled a hole in my head and all the excess of air came out and the pressure was gone! I could breathe for the first time in two days! (Not to mention that due to my lack of smell, I had been driking chicken soup and nothing else for 48 hrs., hopefully I have lost some weight...)

Today my head feels fine and I think I can go back to my normal life tomorrow, I am still a ittle shaky, but nothing like yesterday. I am so graceful to TYLENOL!

Museum of Natural Science, Pool Side Mojitos, and Cabaret...

Yesterday we had an amazing cultural day... My husband treated me with a full day of culture and relaxation!

We started by going to the Museum of Natural Science and the Diamonds exposition, omg that's all I am going to say... We spend almost two hours admiring the most astonishing jewelry pieces from the most prestigious jewelry homes around the world. We some tiaras and bracelets by Cartier, a Faberge Egg encrusted with diamonds, Van Cleef's amazing flower detailed necklaces,
the the world's biggest caramel colored diamond... 490 k.

It was just breath taking to see the precision that these designs had, the timeless taste in their lines, and the harmony between the beauty of the stones and the class of the women who had worn these pieces of art.

After dreaming with these amazing pieces we wen to the largest exposition of Terra cota warriors in the world. Flown in from China, we had the chance have a glimpse of the amazing Chinese culture between the years 230 and 200 B.C.

It is an opportunity no one in Houston should pass on, the exposition is not huge, it will probably take you no more than a couple of hours to go around it. But the history involved in it is just amazing.

The detail in the facial expressions of the warriors, their armors, and chariots is just something never seen. Plus you get a peek on the process of restoration and excavation of geological sites.

The heat was increasing and the pool was inviting, we decided to take a break and lay by the pool enjoying mojitos and splashes with some friends until 8 p.m. when we had to go the theatre to watch the recreation of New York's City classic, Cabaret.

This is the Houston version of Cabaret.....

This is the original touring Broadway show.. can you tell the difference at first sight?!

I was so disappointed to encounter a play with such a strong political message and deep understanding of people living under the Nazi regime in Berlin, be slaughter and transformed into a Disney type of love story, jokes falling flat, colorful attires and WAY too much make up on the "narrator" of the play who came to be seen as a clown more than anything else....

To say the least it was the most painful $200 I have ever spent in my entire life.. If you were thinking of going, DON'T! Rent the original Broadway production from Block Buster and cook a gourmet dinner at home with the remaining $185.

I am a big fan and advocate of culture, but directors should not create their "own" versions of classic plays. Yesterday night 45% of the audience were people between 65 and 75 years old, who had seen the original play before, I have never seen anyone on that age to stand up and run to the doors to stop the blood coming out of their ears... It was just unclassy and tacky, just torture for real culture lovers.

Cheese Tray!

Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T

Great summer tips:
LLano wine, made in Texas, $10-$13 per bottle, goes perfect with a sunny and hot afternoon.
We also picked a blue cheese, smoked gouda cheese, parmegiano, and some sort of cheese with garlic, rosemary and herbs which melted in our mouths!

Amazing afternoon for $40, lovely time with your family!

Afternoon with the fam

Well I grabbed some cheeses, strawberry compote, a nice chilled bottle of white wine, and our travel size Backgammon kit! So off we go Thomas, D and me to enjoy our wine and play Backgammon, which I lost like 5 times!

Terracota Dreams..

Here is a little treat for our more conservative readers.

While we were in Washington recently we picked up some unique beads, I was immediately drawn to this wonderful type of quartz because of their shape and mixture in colors. You have shades of beige, brown, purple, gray, yellow, gosh every color imaginable!

I decided to mix them with some gray onix beads, gold filled chains and findings and silk thread! This gives YOU the chance to tie it at the length you need for an specific wardrobe.

This is a perfect transition piece, you how bold colors are in for the fall? Well this necklace goes amazingly with purple, dark mustard yellow, dark deep turquoise and much more! But it can still be worn with summer brights like pink, light blue and white! It is a great buy that you can use all year round!

Lamb Chops, Cherry/Red Wine Reduction...

This weekend while we were at the ranch celebrating the Aggies Golf National Championship, my father in law asked me to cook for him a special meal worthy of champions!
Without thinking it twice I grabbed by little yellow notepad and started scribbling our wonderful dinner..

We started with some smoked salmon (pre package) served with tiny pieces of boiled egg, capers, and red onions, paired amazingly with some Veuve Cliquot.

Then we continued our dinner with some lamb chops, which took 15 mins of preparation at least 2 hours prior to cooking; and 18 - 20 mins of cooking time.

Here are the steps to follow:

1) Get a full rack of chops and make sure to season it generously with salt and pepper, remember that lamb has a very gamy flavor to it and needs lots of time to be marinated.

2) In between each bone make a 1 1/2" insition until the middle of the meat; do not cut it all the way through because that will make the chop dry when you are cooking them.

3) Get some fresh rosemary and take little pieces of the branches and shove them into the cuts, you can not use too much of it, so don't worry and be generous!

4) Chop 2 to 3 more stalks of rosemary very thinly, mix the tiny pieces with 1/4 of butter stick per rack of 6 lamb chops and put it in the microwave for it to melt.

5) Spread the melted butter with rosemary evenly through out the lamb chops and set them in a baking sheet. Cover up with some aluminum foil and let them rest.

6) 30 mins before you want to serve dinner, get a big non sticky pan, drizzle some olive oil and heat it at medium temparture until the oil starts to sizzle. Put the first rack in the pan with the back part facing you and wait until the fat becomes golden; around 5 mins. At this point you preheatthe oven at 450 degrees.

7) Then turn the rack and cook the back side until golden.

8) Repeat the process on each of the side chops.

9) Finish searing all the racks, this makes the flavor of the rosemary to set in and prevents the juices from drying when baking.

10) Place all the seared racks on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.

11) Carve each lamb chop and you will be ready to serve them!

For the cherry wime redution you need to follow simple step:

1) Open a bottle of red wine, cabernet preferably. Mix in a sauce pan 1/2 bottle with 1 cup of sugar, and a bunch of cherries cut in halves (approx 20-24). Let the mix reduce at low heat (approx. 45 mins) taste the reduction and you can add more wine to make it a little less sweet or you can add more sugar to make it sweeter, it is all about your taste!

2) AFter you cut the lamb chops, grab a spoon full of the reduction and cover the chop; the contrast of flavors is to die for!

You should pair this dish with a nice bold wine, that will mellow with all the strong flavors of the lamb!

Let me know if you have some questions about it, I would love to help!

Tuna Tartar in Minutes!

I made the best restaurant quality tuna tartar ever in 20 minutes at home and a very inexpensive price!

Serves 4 - 6

Here are the steps to follow:
1) Go to the grocery store and buy the following:
- One tuna steak, size meduim.
- One big tomato.
- One avocado.
- One medium red onion.
- Salt.
- Pepper.
- Olive oil.
- Ponzu sauce.

2) When you are home get the tuna steak and cut it into little squares; then seasoned with salt and pepper.

3) Thinly chopped 1/2 of the onion and the whole tomato with no seeds, season with salt and pepper.

4) Then get some ceran wrap and whatever you want to make the tuna tartar dome in; I used some create and barrel large saucers... You put the ceran wrap covering all of the inside of the container.

5) Get the tuna and fill 1/3 of your container, make sure there are no air wholes between the pieces and compact it with your fingertips.

6) Get the tomato and onion, mix them and fill another 1/3 of the container; following the same procedure than before.

7) Put a tiny bit of olive oil over it dish.

Two minute before you are going to serve it put some ponzu sauce over the tuna tartar; get the avocado and chopped it as well, and fill the final 1/3 of the container.

Put out gently the ceran wrap and while you hold a plate under it, sprinkle ponzu sauce around the tuna tartar and garnish with a little bit of parsley. You can add guasabi and ginger ont he side.

Well, here it is! Hope you Enjoy it!
